This EGOT winner could also win the award for cutest dad moment.
John Legend—who shares kids Luna, 8, Miles, 6, Esti, 19 months, Wren, 14 months, with wife Chrissy Teigen—recently unveiled a new tattoo that honors the two newest additions to his family.
“Presenting ‘chrissyestiwren’ for the left arm,” the 45-year-old wrote in an Aug. 26 Instagram post alongside pictures his inner biceps where the new body art is located. “If you zoom/squint/get reading glasses you can see it.”
John went on to explain the deeper meaning behind the tattoo and its relation to his “growing family.”
“I don’t have much ink on my body,” he continued. “My first tattoo was ‘chrissylunamiles’ in a subtle heart-monitor-like cursive on my right arm to honor my growing family. So I asked @winterstone to come back and mirror it with the new babies.”
Although John noted he has just a small collection of tats, the “All of Me” singer and Cravings cookbook author have one more meaningful marking that honors their children.
In November 2020, the couple had the name of their son Jack—who they lost after 20 weeks of pregnancy following a partial placenta abruption and other medical issues—etched onto their wrists in cursive.
“Jack will always be loved, explained to our kids as existing in the wind and trees and the butterflies they see,” Chrissy wrote in a Medium essay about her experience leading up to and following Jack’s loss. “Thank you so much to every single person who has had us in their thoughts or gone as far as to send us your love and stories. We are so incredibly lucky."
And butterflies seem to be a recurring motif for the Legend family, as Chrissy also has one of the insects inked on her right arm.
“Luna drew this butterfly on me today and it seemed fitting to make permanent,” Chrissy wrote in a 2021 Instagram post explaining the significance. “I wanted @winterstone to move and center it, due to issues I also discuss in therapy, but in the end we decided to leave it right where she belonged. A little imperfect, a little messy, but hell she’s here to stay.”
